Post by Rensire Kinst on Aug 12, 2009 1:26:20 GMT
Basic Information
Full Name: Rensire D’Shara Kinst Nickname(s): His preference is Shar or Ren, seldom introducing himself as anything else. Blood: Clayr Age: 24 Charter Mark: A circle crossed by three lines that appear in a wave Pet: None. What Am I?: Lollipop Kid
Appearance
Play-By: Hunter Parrish Usual Clothing: Seldom is Shar found outside of the Library without good reason, thus it is most likely to see him dressed as his position dictates. A black waistcoat layered over a crisp white tunic, paired neatly with breeches that match the waistcoat. Encircling a narrow wrist is a silver bracelet, inlaid with seven emeralds and nine rubies. Silver horn rim glasses balance delicately at the very edge of a small nose.
On the occasion, albeit rare, that he leaves not only the Library, but the Glacier, Shar tends to employ his usual rather bare canvas of colors. Darks, paired with white, simple and useful clothing of a serviceable nature. He tends to dislike standing out, but usually does anyway.
Everything about him is always notably disheveled, though in a way that is haphazardly attractive. Distinguishing Features: A small, semi-circle scar just barely touches the corner of his right eye. He was subconscious of it as a child, but no longer notices it.
Family
Mother: Ryelle (44) is a daughter of the Clayr and twin to Sanar. A member of the Clayr’s Paperwing Flight, Ryelle is a straightforward and respectable woman. Very little ruffles her feathers as she seems to keep an unshakeable cool, something her son neglected to inherit.
Father: Eric Kinst (Deceased) was an exceptional Charter Mage, known for his complex charms and workings. He was also known for his curiosity and intelligence. A man dedicated to his work, something at least Shar managed to inherit.
Siblings: None that he is aware of, his father died before he was born so any half siblings may have been lost in translation.
Other Significant Relatives: Sanar (44) is Ryelle’s twin and Shar’s Aunt. Also, like most members of the Clayr, Rensire is surrounded by many other Aunts and cousins.
Home Town: Clayr’s Glacier
Short Bio: Like most of the respectable Clayr, Rensire was born in the birthing rooms, surrounded the community who had been excitedly awaiting this birth. Ryelle had been the last to imagine her own pregnancy, having never seen it herself. However, her sister had and upon its announcement had been pleased to share this with her. This was how Rensire’s name was chosen, for it was seen to be.
From the day of his birth, he was a rather surprisingly accurate mirror of the man who’d been his father. He was always interested in the things around him, though people were not among those interests. As a youth he’d spend hours studying his lessons and then escaping to the Great Library to wonder over the sendings and the Charter Magic. Curiosity drew him there often.
Like Ryelle, Rensire’s sight had yet to awaken by his 16th birthday and though it didn’t appear to be such a bother to the boy she worried over him. Often she’d suggest to him the possibility of working with the Paperwings as she did. He was a skilled Charter Mage, more so even than she had been. However he had little interest in the Paperwings save how they were created, often staring wistfully at them from afar. Soon though his work would be decided for him, shortly after his birthday the Nine Day Watch saw him as a Librarian. So it would be, to his great pleasure.
On his 18th birthday, the sight awoke in Rensire, one of the latest awakenings known to the Glacier. However, it was often said that the later the awakening, the stronger the Sight. This was the case with Rensire who was immediately recognized during his training for his ease with everything set before him regarding aptitude of skill. But the Sight was not his primary concern, which was unheard of in a Clayr. He missed the Library and soon after the completion of his training he’d returned.
Hard work and a consistent love of knowledge was what brought him steadily through the ranks of Librarians and shortly before her retirement Vancelle promoted him from Deputy Librarian to Chief. He was the youngest Chief Librarian ever in the Great Library, however none doubted the young man’s ability. And so it was.
Personality
The Good: Rensire is an extremely curious and intelligent creature, seldom given to idleness. He loves nothing more than pouring of tomes older than living memory and working alongside his fellow Librarians. This strangeness seems to endear people to him, entertained by his excitable nature and general goodwill towards the idea of people.
The Bad: Nervousness may have been a genetic trait when considering Rensire against his father. It’s surprisingly easy to get him into a stir, he’s always working himself up over the smallest detail. As much as he loves them, he also finds the Clayr to be too much in the future when his desire to learn seems firmly rooted in the past.
The Ugly: Though he wouldn’t admit it openly, Rensire has a deep rooted dislike of people in general, even the Clayr. He finds them to be uninteresting and too prone to destruction. His histories showed him just what humankind was and it frightened him. This leaves him to often appear stand-offish and even rude at times with people who do not know him and his feelings on such.
The Unknown: Rensire is afraid of connection, unsure of the nature of humans he finds them to be unpredictable and unreliable. However, some spark in him deeply desires that idea of a relationship. His only real relationship with another human is the one he shares with his mother.
Other Information
Preferred Weapon: As Chief Librarian, he has been well trained in the use of the sword, wielding Binder which was handed down by Vancelle. This by any means does not however make Binder his weapon of choice. That would be a crossbow, which he has charmed and magicked himself. His accuracy is rivaled only by the highest members of the Rangers, a thing he is quite proud of.
Skills: Rensire adores learning and has become something of an encyclopedia of different facts and ideas, some that would have been lost to history books without him. He also has been known to be quite eloquent when given to speech.
Occupation: Chief Librarian and Historian
Sample Roleplay: Stony stood patiently, waiting at the end of a sensible oak desk. Books piled high around a figure that leaned forward, face portraying acute interest in the tome spread open before him. Pages were yellowed with age, tended well despite such. The sending had been there several minutes already and if possible appeared almost agitated. The cowl that draped over what would have been a face quivered, touched by a mysterious breeze. However, he had no longer need to wait
Rensire had been pouring endlessly over a book featuring several extensive geological landmarks and had called Stony a tad premature. Thin lips pursed tightly into a line, piercing blue gaze lost on the sending whom he was eyeing intently. Assistant librarians seldom dared to stand over him while he studied, but apparently his reputation did not extend appropriately to sendings. Fingertips paused on the corner of a page, suspended a moment while frustration mounted.
Shifting in his chair, the man’s eyes closed briefly. If memory served him the landmarks he was currently researching resided near Robles Town. It would be a quick journey by boat, though he’d need to make a list of the essentials required for the trip. He’d also have to plan it around the Nine Day Watch, which while it was no longer drawing in the large numbers it had been years ago was still meeting with a disturbing frequency. Perhaps there was something coming. In either case Rensire could not be away from the Glacier during the watch in case he was required to stand. Eyes flickered open again, landing on the sending who had during his musing moved closer still.
“Out.” His words directed, a wave of his fingertips directing the sending to the door. Response was not immediate, but when it finally arrived Rensire’s lips neared an invisible tightness. Rather than scurrying from the room as bid, Stony moved forward, circling the desk and extending his arms towards the Chief Librarian expectantly.
Agitation snapped, the cover slamming shut and flipped over into the sending’s hands. A loud thump echoed in the room, jarring the man’s frazzled nerves and his head twisted to glare at the book now settled on the floor. Stony seemed surprised, hands still outstretched as if eager to grasp the book. Brows drew together and knitted, wondering briefly over the point of sendings. They were useful now and then, but only for basic things like this and apparently they couldn’t even do it properly.
“Come here Stony.” His words were terse, still annoyed by the interruption and the sendings strange behavior. As if this was what he’d been after all along, the sending approached and waited in silence. Like most things of the charter, when Rensire reached for him he only felt the warm ripple of charter marks around his hand. He was searching, remembering. It had been a year since any of the sendings had needed such maintenance and it was tedious. Charter marks glowed brightly, forming in his mind as he searched for the activating mark that had been used to tie Stony together. Finding it he drew it into the complex string already assembled in his mind and allowed them to flow easily into the sending that glowed briefly before turning and fetching the downed book.
“Your welcome..” He muttered softly, reaching for another book sitting piled further along the desk.
A sigh escaped Rensire as he turned back to his desk, adjusting his glasses and rubbing his temples. It wasn't that he was particularly exhausted, but he also wasn't pleased with the interruption. Nimble fingers hovered for a moment over his quill pen before crossing the title of the book he'd just returned off of the note he'd written himself. His research was only partially completed and with his luck he'd probably have to search out the book again before he could consider his work done.
Another day in the Great Library of the Clayr.
